Gin S. Malhi: A critical analysis of concepts in psychiatry. Collated

This stream on current diagnostic labelling and usage is an extremely important contribution. We have now reached a fifth iteration of this diagnosis purification exercise and I wish to stress that we have not yet reached a system that is clear, intelligible and functional that can be utilized in any attempt to achieve meaningful information from these diagnostic labels, much less the clinical relationship between these DSM V labels and research into the understanding of the underlying nature of these clinical disorders.
Current prescribing habits use such terms as schizo-affective disorders and depression mainly as best fit for a final diagnosis on a case report or facilitating the use of a therapy that approximately fits this diagnostic label.
I believe that at this date we are wandering in the wilderness in attempting effective and specific therapeutic drug usage.
