Janusz Rybakowski: Lithium The Amazing Drug in Psychiatry

Samuel Gershon’s comment on Janusz Rybakowski’s reply to Barry Blackwell’s comment

I have gone back in the record to comment on Rybakowski’s reference to his proposal of the benefits of lithium for the treatment of dementia.

Such a possibility would of course be of immense importance. It would also be difficult to prove because in our own experience dealing only with the treatment of bipolar patients, we observed that elderly patients with some deficits seemed to do badly regarding their mental functioning on adding lithium. It seemed to get worse as the lithium dose was gradually increased.

However, if Rybakowski has better data it would be important to evaluate it more fully and conduct a small clinical study.
